No commentsHi Everyone,
Happy Favourite Day of the Week – Friday!!!
I’m not quite ready with a “Hot Job or Not” Blog post and am still researching weird and wonderful careers out there but today I plan on revealing to you Ten Tips to finding your dream job on Jobs.co.za
You may recognise the tips from an article that is currently on the website. The reason for me mentioning these tips again is because they really are helpful and I wanted to have a conversation about the advice found in this article on Jobs.co.za.
There is a wealth of tips and tricks when searching for a new job but it’s difficult to know which to apply and what advice is in fact useful. The advice article on Jobs.co.za explains Ten Tips to finding the perfect job.
Who would have thought that by following ten simple tips you could find a job and not just any job…but the Perfect Job for You!
Here are the Tips to follow as well as my take on them;
Know what you are looking for in a job
Sure this may seem obvious but not many Job Seekers know what it is they are looking for. It’s very easy to slip into “Poor me” syndrome when your current work situation is not up to scratch. Instead of concentrating on finding a sustainable career path, Job Seekers tend to seek instant gratification by finding the next available position to fill. Job Seekers need to research and do a little bit of “Soul Searching” by means of self assessment tests and aptitude tests. Self assessment tests help to define a Job Seekers calling. There are various different tests to do, all of which reveal key information detailing your personality type, your working style and the kind of working environment that best suits you. After assessing your likes and dislikes Job Seekers are left with a clear indication of the type of employee they are, the kind of work setting they function in optimally and ultimately reveals clues about the direction you should steer your career in.
Research companies offering careers that that interest you.
Research companies that interest you as well as roles within the company, that apply to your skill. There is no use applying to a job vacancy at a company that doesn’t deliver on your employment requirements. Everyone has specific eccentricities that make them unique in the workplace. Job Seekers are responsible to research companies in order to gauge how well they match with the company they are interested in working for.
Spend time preparing your CV
Again, another super obvious tip, it’s simple; if you want a quality job you need a quality CV. There is no point in preparing a slap-dash CV with the hopes of finding a great job. Quality vacancies go hand in hand with quality CV’s. Take time to prepare your CV, never rush through this. Think of you CV as a Brochure or a marketing or selling tool. You cannot expect to market yourself with a “brochure” that doesn’t sell. Take your time and do it right.
Know where to look for Jobs
Exhaust every resource when searching for a job. Jobs don’t find you, you find them, so be sure to leave no stone unturned. Depending on the role you are looking for, these resources may be come limited as Job Functions move from generalist positions to niche’ roles. Be sure to search in as many of the top quality places to search, when hunting for a job.
Make use of advanced job hunting tools
Be sure to investigate all additional Job Seeker tools that may be available to you to make use of when searching for a job. Many online Job Portals offer tools such as Job Alerts and refined or advanced job searching. Set up multiple alerts where applicable as well as run advanced job searches as opposed to quick searches.
Tailor your CV to suit individual job applications
Tailoring your CV is a Job Seekers path to righteousness. Okay so maybe I’m a little OTT with this, but seriously, Tailor Your CV. Essentially what this means is tapping into your transferrable skills and applying them to you CV in a relevant and applicable manner. Many people possess skills that apply to multiple industries as well as multiple roles. These are transferrable skills. When tailoring your CV you are essentially building a CV that specifically applies to a niche’ role. By highlighting your transferable skills and those capabilities that may be applied in different roles you automatically expand your reach of employment and stand a better chance of being placed in the job that you want.
Network your way into your new Job
Ever heard the saying…”It’s not what you know, but who you know…” Network , network, network.
I’m not suggesting that you skills and accomplishments mean nothing, essentially without your core competencies you won’t be placed in any role let alone your dream role. What I am saying though is that the more people you know in your desired industry the easier it is to catch wind of vacancies as well as keeping up to date with the “who’s who in the employment zoo”
Read Job adverts carefully. Look out for key clues regarding the role as well as the company you are applying to work for. Without this knowledge, essentially you are applying blindly. Pay attention to keywords and phrases and always seek clarity when there is something you may not understand.
Follow up on all new Job applications
After applying to a job vacancy remember to apply Job seeker etiquette and please do follow up. Don’t get yourself wacked with a restraining order, but in good faith follow up with the Recruiter you have applied to if you have not had a response to your job application. Contact the recruiter and ask after your job application. Always be polite and never lose your temper. Sure if you didn’t get the job this time around, it doesn’t mean you won’t get the next one so be careful of burning your bridges.
Stay positive about finding a new Job
Searching for a new job or making a career change is a difficult task for even the most avid Job Seeker.
Stay positive and focussed and always seek feedback on failed applications in order to remedy these problems going forward.
Anyway that’s about as much good advice that I can give to you today, I hope that it has helped.
I’m outta here, I hope you all have a great weekend and I’ll see you bright eyed and bushy tailed on Monday.
Peace out Ya’ll
