One hundred and fifteen leggy ladies are coming to South Africa

I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself.

A news article published by www.joburg.org.za this week, revealed that South Africa and more specifically Jo’burg, will be welcoming one hundred and fifteen leggy ladies to compete against each other in the official Miss World beauty pageant.

For a change, it is South Africa’s stable state of the nation that has worked in our favour and resulted in this most exciting event being hosted in SA. While this is not the first time South Africa has hosted this event, it certainly is a first for good old Jozi.

Okay so gone are the days where the whole family would sit down on a Saturday evening (or was it Friday) rooting the girls on.

Mom, dad, the kids and Grandma all picked their favourites with competitive reasons as to why the girl in question should win or not.

But aside from the current lack of enthusiasm, (or just that we have more channels to select from compared to back then), organisers of Miss World are thrilled to now have the opportunity to share in Jo’burg’s history and culture, not to mention a boost in tourism, positive publicity and job creation.

I was impressed to read further that the Miss World Pageant will be broadcast in over two hundred countries to more than two billion viewers, times that by two and that’s a whole lot of eyeballs watching our every move.

Isn’t it wonderful to know that South Africa is able and equipped to cater for these events? Our technology, our skill and workforce have managed to instil full confidence in international organisers of such events.

Not only is it exciting to see that South Africa is continually being recognised as being more than capable of managing such events, but local fashion designers, event co-ordinators, organisers and other talented South African’s will benefit from this opportunity.

What a bonus to all of us, thanks to our talent, our skill, rich culture, sterling work ethics and beautiful country, proud South Africans everywhere can and will find merit in hosting this international affair.

Personally I’d like to wish the organisers, the hosts and of course all the girls the very best of luck for the 13th of December 2008 when the Miss Wold Pageant comes to “Jozi Town” South Africa.

Well that’s the most exciting bit of news I wanted to talk about today.

I hope that you will calendar the event and support South Africa and more specifically Johannesburg in pulling off an age old event we all so fondly enjoy.

Take care everyone.

I hope you have a great day!
