How Recruiters Search for Job Seekers
No comments
Hi Job Seekers,
I hope I find you well on this pretty spring Tuesday.
Today I wanted to talk about the way in which Recruiters search for candidates using Jobs.co.za
It’s not so much about what the recruiters do to search that I want to cover, but rather how the system runs its search and what information you need to pay attention to providing if you want to be found.
Recruiters have two means of search to make use of when looking to locate relevant candidates for their vacancies.
The one is called a Quick Search and the other an Advanced Search, pretty much the same tools that Job Seekers have to search for job adverts (barring the Job Search Navigator that allows you to search for jobs by distance).
The Quick Search method requires Recruiters to complete only 3 fields by which the system will search, namely; industry, location and free text keywords. The Quick Search was designed to deliver broad results to Recruiters and is best utilised when searching for a large pool of Job Seekers with generalist skills.
The Advanced Search, as the name would suggest is far more advanced than the quick search and is best utilised when Recruiters are searching for very specific and very niche skills.
Again it is not so much the operation that I would like to explain to you here, but rather how the system identifies your CV and Profile and delivers your information to Recruiters.
Regardless of if Recruiters run an Advanced Search or a Quick Search, understanding how the Jobs.co.za system will deliver Job Seeker information to Recruiters based on details in their search query, will better assist you in preparing your CV for head-hunters.
Essentially, when Recruiters specifically select search criteria detailed on the advanced or quick search template (e.g. Job Function, location, industry etc), based on those specific criteria, the Jobs system isolates all of the corresponding Job Seeker Profiles. What this means is that instead of searching the full database of candidates (which could become rather cumbersome) the system will first pinpoint candidates that correspond to that basic criteria (e.g. Job Function, location, industry etc).
After isolating relevant Candidates based on their Profile, the Jobs Search system will continue to search but now within each CV of the relevant candidates, based on the free text keywords which Recruiters would have included in their search.
So now that you know the way in which Recruiters are locating your specialised skill it is important to note how crucial it is to have a complete and comprehensive CV as well as a full Job Seeker Profile as well.
As mentioned before in a blog post entitled Registration 101, completing your Profile is included in the registration process and does not require additional admin to work through. Loading your CV or alternatively building it is all that is standing in your way of finding your dream job, so get building and tailoring and applying.
Also remember that what you put in is what you get out. The more information and the more effort you put in to building a CV that sells your every skill the better your chances are of finding a Job on South Africa’s Job Portal.
I hope that this has helped to shed some light on the way in which recruiters are locating your information and will assist in directing you in creating a top selling CV.
Take care and all the best….and remember… Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action (Benjamin Disraeli)
Happy Job Finding!
