Plans to Plug South Africa’s Brain Drain

I read an article in the newspaper the other day and was pleasantly surprised to stumble across news explaining that non-profit organisation, The Homecoming Revolution (sponsored by FNB) will be hosting a London Exhibition, and in fact the third of its kind in an attempt to encourage skilled South African’s currently living and working abroad, to come home.

We all know of the brain drain that South Africans have been fussing about for as long as I can remember. Skilled South African’s, for various reasons, have been flooding over to the UK in search of better jobs, improved lifestyles and economic stability.

The brain drain quite literally explains that smart, educated, highly skilled South Africans have been draining out of our country like water rushing through a plug hole.

As reported in the newspaper, the annual Homecoming Revolution London event will take place on the fourth and fifth of October ‘08, where not only South Africans will be encouraged to return home, but perhaps spark the interest of foreign skilled workers as well.

South Africa’s skills shortage is ever present and shows bleak signs of improving and, what’s more, who knows what will happen during this time of economic and domestic instability (Let’s hope nothing too detrimental to our job market).

Regardless of this fact I was so impressed to read the extent to which The Homecoming Revolution plans to attract skilled workers to the South African employment market.

The London exhibition will showcase employment opportunities and expand on the skills requirement and resources lacking in South Africa. Job Seekers will have the opportunity to find information about the South African job market, working and living in South Africa and things as simple as how to open up a bank account.

The London Homecoming Revolution will also provide information to ex pats on how they can go about coming back home after immigrating to the UK.

Isn’t is brilliant to know that while prospects abroad have always been around tempting us, fruitful opportunities continue to exist in South Africa which are readily available for us to pursue.

With that said, happy job hunting skilled South Africans, high level jobs really do exist in our beautiful country and it’s just up to us to find them, apply and fill the seat.

Thanks for reading
