Indicating your Current Salary
2 comments so farHi Everyone – Es salaam aleikom
Today is just a perfect day isn’t it!
No matter what you are currently going through, whether it be a wonderful experience or a particularly trying time, I wanted to let you in on a little secret…
You are powerful beyond measure, destined for greatness and even when you don’t think so, everything that you are currently going through is happening for a reason – a valuable lesson that the universe and all she is made up of is trying to share with you.
Anyway now that I have shared my pep talk with you (I’m in a particularly good mood today) let’s get down to what I want to share with you.
In recent weeks the Jobs Team has included a new field to the registration form that Job Seekers need to complete in order to access their private account.
The field we have added is “Current Salary”, which is naturally what you are currently earning in your position.
Upon launch we required that Job Seekers indicate their desired salary and after some useful feedback from Recruiters we have decided to include your current salary too.
The reason for this is so that Recruiters are able to further establish your application’s relevancy to a job vacancy. We all have “desired salaries“; that elusive figure you have in your head that you feel you may be worthy of.
It is wonderful to aspire to greatness and earning a large sum of money (the laws of attraction call for such thinking). However, deep down I know that the “Wun Hundred Meellion Dollaars” I feel I should be earning, may be somewhat unrealistic in context to my level of skills and seniority.
By comparing your current salary to that of your desired salary, Recruiters are able to establish what level your skills are valued at and measure the difference between what you are currently earning to that of what you are hoping to earn.
When recording your desired salary remember that this should be as realistic and fair as possible, not to mention in the vicinity of what you are currently earning. There is nothing wrong with pursuing a salary increase when changing jobs but the extent to which you push your desired salary may work against your favour if this figure is unrealistic and not in line with general market or salary surveyed figures as well as your current earning.
Be sure, that the next time you log in to Jobs.co.za, select the “Edit your Profile” option on the “My Job Seeker” page. Here you will see the newly created Current Salary field for you to complete.
Not only will this allow Recruiters to understand your application in further detail but will also ensure that should your current salary be less than what the prospecting company is offering, you won’t be bothered with irrelevant invitations to apply to a job you may be over qualified for.
Please let us know if you have any problems updating your profile when including your Current Salary and we will gladly assist with any issues you may be experiencing.
Thank you and again, let us know of any recommendations or comments you would like to share about Jobs.co.za and we will be happy to consider and implement useful tools, tips and functionalities that will benefit the Job Seeking process.
Thanks Everyone – I hope you all have a terrific day and Happy Happy Job Hunting!
