Uploading a Word CV or Building One from Scratch using a CV Template

Happy Friday the 24th of October, ‘08

I hope you are all having a terrific day!

It’s Friday, only moments away from the start of the weekend, for some just a day away from pay day and for me personally, the 24th of October is an enormously positive day going forward.  I hope that I can pay forward all to of this positive energy onto all of the Job Seekers of the world and hope that you too will begin to find what it is that you are looking for; A job that you can be proud of and look forward to going to everyday.

In the hopes that you find the job of your dreams, I wanted to briefly discuss the differences between uploading a word version of your CV versus using a CV template to build your personal marketing document online.

Both options are available to Job Seekers using Jobs.co.za and in fact Job Seekers are able to create up to 3 targeted CV’s to manage within their Job Seeking portfolio, regardless of whether you upload a word version or build this from scratch, online, using the Jobs.co.za CV Template creator.

Aside from getting into the merit of tailoring your CV for each job application you pursue, I specifically wanted to talk about which CV option; uploading or creating, is the better option to proceed with.

There is in fact no “better than the other” CV option that Job Seekers should utilise when creating an online version of your CV. Both the upload/  CV import and CV creator option are just as relevant as each other and if there was a better option to make use of we would only make this option available to you as opposed to confusing the matter.

In truth, each Recruiter operates differently and each responds in a unique way when receiving CV applications from Job Seekers. Some Recruiters prefer working with standardised applications that are easy to decipher and break into manageable parts and others prefer dealing with unique applications that display the individuality of each Job Seeker.

There is no way to predict or to tell how a Recruiter will respond to each option of CV application but there is one sure way of making sure you get invited for an interview; Don’t leave out any relevant and required information that the Recruiter needs in order to assess the relevancy of your application. Nothing frustrates Recruiters more than receiving a CV application lacking in information to process the initial short listing of candidates.

Never ever apply to an online job advert with a CV that, upon opening, instructs Recruiters to contact you telephonically to request a full CV application.

Recruiters using online Job Portals such as Jobs.co.za, subscribe to such a service with the intention of streamlining the recruitment process. Instead of having to cold call Job Seekers to pursue an application response, Recruiters subscribe with the objective of inviting the Job Seekers to apply and essentially candidates come to them. Don’t ever make a Recruiter chase you, not ever. If you are interested in filling a job vacancy you have found advertised online, follow close application instructions and make sure that at best you don’t end up wasting the Recruiters time and ruining your chances of merely being shortlisted.

Pay attention to detail, submit a complete CV application whether by means of an uploaded CV document or after building an online version of this using a job portals template.

Be smart and humble about your application and offer as much assistance to the Recruiter as possible in order to make it simple for them to identify reasons why you are the perfect candidate for the job.

I hope that you will all go back and make sure that your CV information is up to date and if you have been applying to job adverts in the above dubious manner that you will realise that the only person you are doing an injustice to is yourself and your chances of finding a terrific Job.

Take care over the weekend everyone and I will see you all again on Monday.

All the best and Namaste’

(Bow to the divine in you)
