Good Luck to the Grade 12 Class of 2008
No commentsHi everyone and welcome to Wednesday’s blog.
Today, the South African class of 2008 Grade 12 students have assumed their positions at their designated examination stations (Approximately 6500 in total throughout the country), black pens poised and atwitter of butterflies present in their tummies as the end of year Grade 12 exams began.
Granted not every Matric pupil has been required to write the exams that were hosted today, but today marks the fateful day that every grade 12 pupil works towards from the beginning of their education.
This is the day that each student in fact takes the very first defining step towards their employment opportunities and reaching their dream careers.
Based on the outcome of their end of year exams, South African Matric pupils will have a more clearly defined picture of where they are headed in their careers and how they anticipate on getting there.
The first of the exams that were adjudicated today included language papers such as Hebrew, Hindi,
Portuguese and German.
The first English paper, that majority of learners will have to write will be on Monday and going forward from there the exams will have kicked in full swing.
What makes the 2008 year slightly different and not to mention with added pressure, is that this year is the first of OBE examinations to be administered in South Africa.
The OBE (Outcome Based Education) curriculum is defined as knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and values that learners are required to learn and ultimately display in their final examinations as opposed to only focussing on theory retention and transmission during their examinations.
Essentially the core difference being that students are no longer able to learn and pass examinations based on pure parrot fashion learning but rather, must display ways in which they can apply the knowledge attained during their studies, to situations of relevancy. By clearly displaying the knowledge and skill they have acquired through their studies in “real life” contexts along with attitudes, values and core understanding makes for a more challenging and thought provoking test.
Jobs.co.za would like to extend our warmest wishes to all Matric students during their end of year examinations. It is a testing time that will take stamina and endurance and wish you all well on your journey towards attaining your dream career.
I’m out for the rest of the week but I promise to catch up with you first thing on Monday morning.
Namaste’
