Plans to expand BEE to BBEE – Broad- Based Economic Empowerment

Hi everyone and welcome to the first week in November.

In today’s local paper I read an article about South African BEE policies and intended efforts to improve on perhaps stagnated strategies.

As discussed in the article published in today’s Start, by Slindile Khanyile; after the recent convening of South Africa’s corporate BEE top dogs along with ANC’s President Jacob Zuma, it has been agreed upon that South Africa’s BEE policies are long overdue for revision and re-structuring.

Backed by the ANC, BEE beneficiaries in corporate SA have agreed that while the fourteen year old BEE policies have served their purpose to some, they have failed to sanction and empower black South African entrepreneurs and SMME start ups, essentially those who are most in need of such support.

It has been said that over time the ANC have come to identify shortcomings in BEE policies in South Africa and have motivated for a team to forum BEE policy discussions and reviews in order to take BEE development and empowerment up a notch. With plans to extend current BEE policies to board-based black economic empowerment, leading businessmen and women along with the ANC have assigned a team of delegates as well as funding to examine board-based black economic empowerment and ways in which to improve on the currently outdated policies and extend support to SMME’s and start-up BEE companies.

Chairman of Zungu Investments; Sandile Zungu fills one of the seats in the review forum and comments that each element of Black Economic Empowerment policies (including skills development, development on an enterprise level as well as procurement) need to be steadfast and greater reaching to that of what is currently being experienced. In their feat to identify ways in which to enhance, develop and expand on BEE policies, this will be the main objective during the forum which will be hosted in the next upcoming months when the team of delegates will reconvene for intensive debate and brainstorming to develop BEE to a greater scope.

As soon as I have found out when, where, with who and final outcomes to such policy amendments I will be sure to share these with you all.

Enjoy Your Monday Everyone

Namaste’
