The Importance of Creating a Unique Customised Application Cover Letter

Hi there Job Seekers,

Here’s hoping, as always, that you all had a brilliant weekend and rested well ahead of this exciting and promising new week.

It’s already the last week in January and the “Job Hunt” is now in full swing and forging ahead with momentum and pace.

In sticking with the theme of the job hunting season and efforts you may be entertaining in order to better your chances of finding a new job to prosper and excel in I thought I’d share a little tip that may be able to assist you in getting you to stand out and set your application apart from other Job Seekers.

Many Job Seekers forget how important an application cover letter is and how valuable it is in assisting you in getting noticed and landing your ideal position.

Your cover letter is the first point of contact you have with a Recruiter even ahead of your CV.

Without a strong cover letter some Recruiters may not even go as so far as even opening up your CV in which case all chances of you being matched to a vacancy is lost.

When applying to available jobs on Jobs.co.za you have the option of selecting either a Standard Cover Note or a Customised Cover Note to accompany your job application.

As a career Guru and always trying to give you the very best advice Id would give to anyone looking for a new job, I wanted to stress today the importance of your cover letter.

Your cover letter should be strong enough to sell you harder than that of your CV.

Regardless of how impressive your CV is, if Recruiters aren’t prompted to open it up, by way of “selling” in your cover note, your efforts are wasted.

When applying to job ads on Jobs.co.za you have the option of selecting to use a Standard Cover Note or alternatively a Customised Cover Note to accompany your CV. While both options are available to make use of, you should keep in mind that by customising a cover note to present your CV with, will award you the opportunity to uniquely market your application.

Customised Cover Note: This allows you to edit your cover note attachment and include information that the Standard Cover Note does not allow for. Sell your strengths, opportunities, value add and unique market offering by creating a Customised CV Cover Note.

Standard Cover note: For quick CV applications use the Standard Cover Note to briefly present your application. The Standard Cover Note cannot be edited and differentiated with your unique “sales pitch” to Recruiters and will be the same as other Job Seeker applications who select the Standard Cover Note.

Yes, it may take a little bit more effort in preparing a unique cover letter to present your application with but I ask you this;

Are you looking to simply fill just any job, like custard inside an éclair?

Or, are you looking for the chocolate coating covering the éclair and essentially what makes it that much more satisfying?

Anyway I hope that gives you some “food for thought” and if you need any tips or further pointers on how to write a top notch cover letter, visit the Job Seeker advice pages and have a read through an article I wrote on; “How to Write a Top Selling CV Cover Letter” for further support and help.

I hope you have a terrific Monday everyone and I will catch you again soonest!

Namaste’
