Job Scam Warning

3 comments so far

We have recently been notified of another scam that is doing the rounds on job advertising boards, where a company is posing as Climax Oil and is presenting job offers on behalf of Climax Oil to job applicants without even having met for a job interview.

Although the job advertisement may seem rather legitimate, this is indeed a scam. The official Climax Oil company has posted a Scam Warning on their own website. Please read it to find out more details regarding the nature of the scam.

The nature of the scam is where a phony job advertisement is placed on job web sites, promising positions at Climax Oil. The applicant receives an email with a job offer and requests that the applicant pays an up-front fee to a travel & tour company for assistance in getting a working Visa and to make arrangements for the applicant to get to the foreign country (i.e. Nigeria).

Please note that this is indeed a scam and Climax Oil dissociate themselves entirely from any of these emails or job advertisements as they believe it is an attempt to perpetrate Advance Fee Fraud (popularly known as “419”) on unsuspecting members of the public. In the event that you have received any emails from the company described above, please visit the official website for contact details to take further action.

Please be aware that this is becoming a common scam and Jobs.co.za advises that you never pay any monies over to anyone unless you have met face-to-face and have thoroughly done your research on the company to whom you are paying monies (telephonically or in person) to be assured that the company that you are dealing with has a legitimate job offer on hand.

Just to let the relevant people know that I received a job offer today, being the 12th March 2009 from “Climax Oil” where I was asked to pay X amount of dollars for my visa fee’s.. blah blah blah… I know that you never ever accept a job offer having had no official interview and would not ever under any circumstances pay anyone any cash for anything, especially for visa’s because any ex-pat package would do that all for you… but people need to be aware of these scams and there are a few… I had another one from Total, Senegal, Total does not even have a site in Senegal…. you really need to do your homework fully and be very aware!

I received similar. Initially could not find the website other that a link that identified it as a 419 scam. Got an email from them as I too received a job offer, no interview, no job details, wrong job title, etc but they gave me a website, http://youngrecruiting.com/ScamAlert.aspx. This job offer from the ‘Scam Capital’ Need I say more.
