POSITION: TAX COMPLIANCE MANAGER

 

LOCATION: SANDTON

 

REPORTING TO: GENERAL MANAGER - TAXATION AND TREASURY

 

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

 

The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that all entities within the Group SA are wholly complianwith all applicable taxation legislation and taxation practice.
The Tax Compliance Manager will be required to implement tax risk management and added value to the company.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Timely submission of returns, effecting tax payments on due dates

o Manage, update and improve all tax administrative systems and processes

o Registration and deregistration of taxpayers and VAT vendors

o Ensure all refunds are received and interest is received on outstanding refunds

o Obtain tax clearance certificates for all vendors and taxpayers

o Promote the validity, accuracy and completeness of tax accounting

o Implement review measures, internal controls and various reconciliations to ensure that all accounting

transactions relating to tax are valid, accurate and complete

o Manage the year end process, including the year end tax computation and accounting disclosure in the

Group Annual Report and respond to queries raised by External Auditors

 

Perform tax risk management activities

o Ensure tax compliance and implement value added measures

o Identification, recording, quantification and management of exposure to tax risks

o Carryout the necessary tax training, prepare tax manuals, update Tax Policy document and implement

procedures to adhere to the Group Tax Policy document

o Raise tax objections and resolve tax queries with SARS

o Review all tax returns and the relevant reconciliations

o Ensure that e-filing users are valid and have the correct access

o Liaise with the Internal Audit team and carry out audits on tax

o Prepare tax opinions and promote the consistent treatment of tax within the Group

o Obtain and update tax rulings including pooling arrangements and VAT apportionments

o Identify and implement Value Added Tax planning activities and organisational efficiencies within the

Group

o Provide regular feedback and reports to the Group Taxation Manager and the Audit Committee

o Provide reports on risk exposure, level of compliance and tax status

 

Management of Department and Tax projects

o Liaise with External Auditors to facilitate the year end process

o Maintain a positive working relationship and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders

such as SARS, tax consultants and business partners

o Meet regularly with SARS to resolve tax issues and promote transparency

o Visit the business divisions within the company and promote tax compliance

o Perform other relevant duties allocated by the Group Taxation Manager.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

 An Accounting or Legal qualification

 Higher Diploma in Taxation or MCom (Taxation)

 A VAT qualification

 At least 5 to 10 years experience in a similar role

 Previous Business and Risk Management experience would be advantageous.
