Ensuring compliance with all regulations with regard to mechanical and electrical reticulations (as per the 2.13.1 legal appointment)
Assmang Limited’s Beeshoek Iron Ore Mine, situated approximately 7 kilometres west of Postmasburg in the Northern Cape (±200km west of Kimberley), requires the services of the following individual:
Section Engineer
Requirements: • A Grade 12 • A Government Certificate of Competency: Mines and Works • A B Eng degree or equivalent diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering • 8 years’ experience in an engineering environment with the requisite level of responsibility in the heavy engineering field • A valid Code B/EB driver’s licence • Computer literacy in the MS Office suite
• Thorough knowledge of 11kV-22kV distribution overhead lines, cables, transformers, rotating machinery and LV process plant equipment • Sound working knowledge of maintenance systems, beneficiation plant (crushers, pumps, screens, cyclones and conveyor belts), as well as plant maintenance • The ability to work accurately under pleasure • Proven managerial skills
• Fluency in English (read, write and speak) • A high standard of teamwork.
Key performance areas include, inter alia: • Ensuring compliance with all regulations with regard to mechanical and electrical reticulations (as per the 2.13.1 legal appointment) • Operating and maintaining electrical distribution and motor control equipment, using the latest modern technology • Planning and scheduling operations in accordance with
demanding production requirements • Preparing and controlling engineering budgets • Implementing maintenance, adequate standards and company procedures to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment on the Mine • Supervising and training staff in the Engineering Department • Conducting root cause analyses • Undertaking cross-functional liaison with other disciplines • Performing ad hoc or any other reasonable duties as and when requested from time to time.
Probation period: 6 months
Appointment: Remuneration will be based on a competitive, all-inclusive, flexible package.
The successful candidate will be appointed subject to being certified medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act, 29/1996, and meeting the requirements of the Company’s Code of Practice – Minimum Standards of Fitness to perform work at a Mine. He/she may also undergo psychometric assessments.
The successful candidate who conforms to all said requirements and experience will be appointed on Paterson Grading D3. Should the successful candidate not conform to all said requirements and experience, but is nonetheless regarded as suitable for appointment to the position, he/she will be appointed on a lower, more appropriate grading, until successful achievement of required competencies and skills.
