Our company is looking to fill the position of JUNIOR PROOFREADER- GROUP MARKETING. The position will be based at our head office in Sandton and will report to the Traffic Manager.



JOB TITLE:   Junior Proof-reader - Group Marketing

LOCATION:   Sandton                                   

                                

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

¨    Matric / Grade 12

¨    Tertiary qualification in journalism or creative writing

 

EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

¨      A minimum of 3 years proofreading in an advertising or publishing environment

¨      A portfolio that demonstrates these skills beyond a shadow of a doubt and the results of the activities to prove it

¨      Capable of writing headlines, body copy and guiding the response mechanisms

¨      To have an interest and keep abreast in commerce, popular culture, and new advertising trends and techniques

¨      Fully proficient in MS Office, MS Mac Office and Adobe Acrobat

¨      Exceptionally fast proof reading and written communication skills

¨      A command and love for the English language

¨      Understand the different language styles that appeal to various target markets

¨      Thorough understanding of retail advertising disciplines

¨      Ability to tolerate stress, drive and work under pressure

¨      Detail consciousness and time management is essential

¨       Must be excellence orientated and a team player

 

SUMMARY OF MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

¨      Based at head office Sandton reporting to the Traffic Manager

¨      To work with the Design Team to check all copy related jobs, in order to deliver outstanding, original, relevant and impactful retail communication of the highest standard

¨      Simultaneously work on multiple projects, across various brands and formats

¨       Accuracy is essential and the Proofreader will be responsible for checking that all the content being advertised is accurate, truthful and complies with codes of advertising practice

¨      Sub-edit editorial and promotional copy, which includes:

  • ·        Checking spelling and grammar
  • ·        Correcting factual and language errors
  • ·        Checking style and tone
  • ·        Ensuring that all copy is as ‘reader-friendly’ as possible — i.e., easy to understand and a pleasure to read
  • ·        Localizing copy where necessary
  • ·        Watching out for inconsistencies, contradictions and repetitions
  • ·        Helping to maintain the editorial standard of excellence
  • ·        Checking layouts for consistency of slugs, fonts and general design style
  • ·        Trimming copy to fit layouts
  • ·        Writing captions
  • ·        Checking that all necessary by-lines, credits and tail-lines appear
