Regional Geologist – Africa
Reporting to the Regional Exploration Manager: Africa, this is a senior appointment with significant responsibility for contributing to the growth of the Company. The successful candidate will have undertaken a similar role and have a track record that attests to his/her ability to deliver. The candidate will be highly motivated by both the challenge and the potential rewards and committed to professional excellence. As such, they will fit well within a group of highly qualified senior professionals responsible for identifying quality gold opportunities from grass roots to acquisitions and joint ventures in the African Region. Applicants for this role should possess:
- A Bachelor of Science in Geology (Minimum)
- At least 15 years relevant experience in international mineral exploration with an emphasis on gold deposits in diverse geologic settings
- A successful track record in identifying grassroots, acquisition and JV opportunities
- A high level of technical understanding of gold deposit styles and their footprints at regional and detailed scale
- An excellent understanding of the economic drivers of mining
- A high level of technical understanding of both common and cutting edge exploration methods
- Good computer literacy with relevant GIS programs as well as general computer skills in other relevant software
- Good analytical skills
- A team player attitude with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
- English speaking and writing skills
Other attributes that will be favourably viewed include:
- Significant exposure to the African region
- Maintain a current understanding of geology, gold deposits and deposit models within principal sub-provinces and belts in the region
- A strong understanding of financial and commercial concepts relevant to mining and global exploration
- Familiarity with competitor activity in the region as well as technical advancements in exploration including geophysics, geochemistry, remote sensing and software
- French Speaking and writing skills will be a significant advantage
