BHP Billiton Energy Coal is the largest producer of energy coal in South Africa and operates five collieries in the Witbank/Middelburg area of Mpumalanga, with the aim of realising its vision of being the “World’s Leading Coal Mining Company”.
In this role you will need to ensure compliance with BHP Billiton commitment to Zero Harm, which will include demonstrating a record of uncompromised values of sustainability by putting health and safety first, being environmentally responsible and supporting our communities, integrity, respect, performance, simplicity and accountability. The purpose of this role will be to be responsible for executing the relevant portion of the business plan for the Operation in such a manner that all aspects of the budget for which you will be responsible are achieved in a sustainable manner with the key focus of delivering on financial and operational targets through the application of strict operating discipline.
Applicants will be in possession of a National Diploma/equivalent (3 year): BTech in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering or BEng in Metallurgy/Chemical, coupled with 4 years’ relevant experience of which 1 year should have been at a supervisory level. Experience in a coal mining industry is essential, whilst an advanced coal preparation certificate would be an added advantage. You will have line management in Operations as well as knowledge of and experience in organisational improvement. In-depth knowledge of processing with specific experience in related process technology employed as well as ability to identify and assess key risk factors and execution problems at an early stage. Well-developed interpersonal skills are critical.
