Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the management of the Trust’s operations in the Free State Regional Office based in Bloemfontein.
The Mvula Trust is the leading NGO in the rural water supply and sanitation field in South Africa, with a solid track record, high-calibre staff and a network of relationships and partnerships with the major stakeholders in the sector. The mission of the Mvula Trust is to improve the health and livelihoods of poor and disadvantaged South Africans using and maximising community-based approaches to facilitate delivery of integrated and sustainable water, sanitation and related services, while ensuring that people’s voices are heard. The Trust employs 90 people in 8 offices and manages funds of about R165 million annually.
Regional Director
(3-year performance-based contract)
Free State (Bloemfontein)
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the management of the Trust’s operations in the Free State Regional Office based in Bloemfontein.
Primary responsibilities:
• Provide effective leadership to the Regional Office and ensure that the Region achieves the organisation’s and the Region’s business plan objectives
• Develop and manage the Region’s annual Business Plan, including leading, organising, planning, co-coordinating resources and reporting
• Manage staff and the functioning of the Regional Office
• Attract, retain and develop focused, motivated and competent employees
• Provide strategic input and add value to Mvula Trust Senior Management processes, as well as facilitate the implementation of Senior Management/Board decisions
• Carry out the relationship-building, marketing and lobbying of both District and Local Municipalities, including contracts negotiation with clients, fund-raising and advocacy work in the Region
• Ensure maximum profiling of the office in relation to present and potential future work in the Province
• Ensure the effective management and monitoring of all activities that may have a financial impact on the Mvula Trust.
Requirements:
• A B degree qualification in a relevant technical and/or development-related field (a postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage)
• At least 5 years’ experience in management
• Good communication and report writing skills
• Experience in and a commitment to working with rural communities
• Strong working knowledge of the water supply and sanitation sector, complemented by good knowledge of participatory planning and decisionmaking facilitation techniques
• Knowledge of financial management, contract management, programme management, project management, human resource management, risk and quality management
• Understanding of the political dynamics in the Province, particularly in the Local Government sphere
• Ability to develop sound relationships with municipalities, relevant provincial departments and all other relevant stakeholders.
