One of South Africa’s largest broadcasters seeks to appoint an employment equity and self-motivated individual to assume responsibility as HEAD OF ACQUISITIONS: MOVIES. This is a great opportunity for the individual who meets the below criteria 90%.



KNOWLEDGE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • A relevant Business Degree or equivalent
  • Extensive MOVIE Knowledge and Passion for Movie Industry
  • Computer literacy (Excel critical, Word and PowerPoint);
  • Synergy Advantage
  • At least 3 years business experience in the television or film industry, programming and scheduling
  • Experience in Financial management and strategic planning
  • Legal Expertise

 

  • BUDGETS
  • Develop, facilitate, draft  and manage movie budgets across channels Check monthly forecast against cost of sales.Financial management of budget limits
  • Request screening copies of all Non–Currents (TV movies and Library titles) and Non-Qualifiers
  • Screening and selection of suitable movies for broadcaster (TV movies, Library titles and Non-Qualifiers) and suggest best slot/night per movie premiere.
  • Validate acquisitions against international ratings as well as local performance.
  • Administer and request suitable license start dates for Non-Currents
  • Check and advise if all confirmed license start dates for Currents, Non-Currents and TV movies are suitable for Movie genre channels, Africa and North Africa
  • Prepare Letters of Offer and negotiate license fees and terms with independent distributors as well as local suppliers.
  • Research, brainstorm, assess, support, schedule and review all new Channels and innovations requiring movie content.

CHECK AND SIGN-OFF FILM LINE-UPS ON MONTHLY BASIS

  • Research, brainstorm, assess, support, schedule and (ultimately) review all new
  • Includes new Content e.g. Short Films
  • Includes innovative Subscriber Value Adds e.g. HI and Sight Impaired

 

OUTPUTS

 

  • Develop and manage movie budgets across all channels.
  • Administration of studio Output deals.
  • Administer and negotiate local/independent deals.
  • Administer and plan movie inventory in conjunction with Budget Controller, Director, Group Content Services and Finance Manager.
  • Check and sign off film line ups on monthly basis
  • Preparation of monthly planning presentations with other members of the team
  • Assist with brainstorming, implementation  and management of  the launch of new movie channels
  • Screen, feedback and select latest TV movies and Studio Non-Qualifiers
  • Screening and selection of suitable movies for the broadcaster, and choosing best slot/night per movie premiere
  • Prepare Letters of Offer and negotiate license fees and terms with independent distributors as well as local suppliers.
  • Prepare Deal Memos on Synergy/Dealworks
  • Liaise with Contracts and Finance departments to execute deals
  • Administer any changes to executed contracts
  • Validate acquisitions against international ratings as well as local performance.

  • Manage ad hoc projects.
  • Ad hoc Reports and Presentations whenever required

STAFF MANAGEMENT

  • Identify,  implement and manage skills development programmes
  • Manage the performance and output of the division through the approved procedures and processes.
  • Monthly reports and monthly meetings with Director, Group Content Services and own Staff.
