Service workplace organization at grass roots level with the objective of building democratic workplace structures



SAMWU Free State Province has a vacancy for a Trade Union Organizer.

We are seeking applicant who have an all round approach to the practice of trade unionism and who have
knowledge and experience and a commitment to develop their capacities to:

• Service workplace organization at grass roots level with the objective of building democratic workplace
structures, • Provide advice and support to workers in relation to discipline and grievances, health and safety,
workplace education, collective bargaining and other labour law matters and to participate in the negotiation
of suck matters, • Deal with issues of the theory and practice of trade unionism within the South African and
global social, economic, environmental and political context and history, • Develop trade union leadership in
all of the above issues through acting as educator and running effective meetings, courses and workshops.
• Understand local government and local government legislation and the struggle to defend and improve local
government and public service delivery and related developmental challenges.

Once employed, the union may deploy the successful candidate to perform duties that specialize to a lesser or
greater extent in one of the above areas of work.

A foundation level of literacy is essential and an ability to speak more than one of English, Afrikaans,
iSiXhosa, Tswana and Sotho languages.

Applicant must have a drivers’ license and be willing to travel extensively.
