Assistant Programme Manager
VIOLENT CRIME AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE

The Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) is a growing African institution committed to deepening democracy and human rights in southern Africa. With a mandate that includes operating in ten countries in the region, including four that are in crisis and/or transition from conflict, OSISA requires an individual who is able to operate in a fastpaced environment, demonstrating superior leadership skills and an ability to multi-task.

OSISA, the Initiative on Confronting Violent Crime and the Global Criminal Justice Fundprojects of the Open Society Institute seek an Assistant Programme Manager to coordinate violence prevention and criminal justice reform programmes in southern Africa.

Based at the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) in Johannesburg, the position will report to OSISA.

Responsibilities: • Work closely with key stakeholders in southern Africa to help develop and implement comprehensive violence prevention and criminal justice transformation strategies. • Endeavour to develop linkages among groups working on violence prevention and on criminal justice reform; assist groups to see their work as complementary and to think strategically about potential collaboration. • Design grant-making and advocacy strategies to advance the programmes • Attend meetings, solicit and evaluate grant proposals, follow-up with grantees and potential grantees, supervise related consultancies, and track impact and evaluate programme strategies and projects. • Create opportunities for grantees to convene and share strategies; encourage the development of collaborative projects and information sharing, as appropriate. • Coordinate and/or attend meetings, conferences; create partnerships and networks to advance programme goals. • Compile
and disseminate information on violence prevention and criminal justice reform best practices.

Qualifications: • Minimum of five years experience working on violence prevention and/ or criminal justice issues • Substantive knowledge of southern Africa • Experience working with international crime prevention programmes, criminal justice reform initiatives, and/or with local and national government agencies a plus • Expertise in NGO capacity building and evaluation • Extraordinary initiative, creativity and capacity to think strategically •
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse array of people • Team spirit and respectful working and decision-making style • Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail • Integrity, diplomatic manner and professional discretion essential • Willingness to travel as needed • Advanced degree in relevant area of study.

An attractive remuneration package, commensurate with experience applies. The job is offered on a three-year (renewable) contract.
